Veron's Back! / Random School Life / Artikulation 2012

Hey guys! Today's post is gonna be a treat coz there will be lots of pictures hehe. Of course, those who added me on facebook would have already seen these, its just gonna be a summary of those photos. Oh, new photos from random school life will be added too, so look out for those! :D

First part, Veronica's arrival back to Singapore. You have no idea how long Ive waited for her to come back, and now that she is finally back, OH YEAH. Unfortunately Artikulation and other school stuff has been taking up a ton of my time, so I only got to see her for a few times before she headed back to Australia just yesterday. :( Anyway, here are the pics in chronological order:

Next up, School Life. 

I had the privilege of donating blood to help others recently since the whole blood donation bank came to the school. It was an exhilarating experience to say the least, but could do with much more comfort.

The long winded form we had to fill out before going for a blood test. Includes questions loke whether you have HIV.

Was sitting beside Wei Min while donating. It hurt like hell when the nurse squeezed the blood pressure tester thing around my arm and refused to let it loosen. My whole arm turned numb. But please dont let this discourage you from donating blood, the pain is only for two minutes and worth it. The process of poking the huge needle through your veins and having the blood stream out doesnt hurt at all. (no irony there)

Did I mention that it is extremely disturbing to look at a whole bag of your own blood.

Other random things my friends do to me during class:

This is my thigh and the red part is due to the fact that i sat like an ah beng. Goh Qian saw that it was a perfect circle and decided to add a smiley on to it. 

This is what happens when you dont keep your foolscap paper properly when going up to the board during literature to write stuff. Oh, and that bird is supposed to represent angry birds. That Melissa Foo.......



ARTIKULATION 2012!

Oh my gosh, everyone in MEP, graduated or not, have all been working extremely hard for this day. For my trio, I kind of screwed up a few places and it was really obvious because the violin is all high and prominent (not to mention screechy) but overall i think we did not bad. Not the best though, I thought all the singers stole the show that night. Anyway, All the gals looked so chio that night. Chris and I were the (self-appointed) makeup artists for the J1s and Kimberly was everyone's hair stylist. She did an awesome job with my hair, creating all the girls, and when i pulled it back, it looked absolutely perfect. Here are the pictures:

With the coolest girl in J1 MEP, reason being that she handles 3 H2s plus 1 H3 on top of SNYO and becoming our current Strings president and still manages to pass most of her subjects. *highest respect* helps that she has a gossipy side too hehe ;)

Weitian! I think she is the senior im most comfortable with in MEP. :)  Thanks for being a cool and talented friend!!

This is Song Wei, a J3 i think. She is so beautiful and sings so well, and I wanna rip the dress off her. Beauty + Fashion + Talent = Deadly combination.

The forever friendly and funny Yiying who brings laughter and joy wherever she goes due to her figure of speech xD She plays both her piano and violin really well, so its interchangeable for her (unlike me whose piano is lagging far behind)

Elisa, Clarissa's vocal Goddess xD I love her voice and her performance of that La Boheme song was my personal fave performance in Artikulation.

Vivian, my rather long time friend since secondary school <3 She has always been there for me and treats me really well, extremely grateful towards this girl. Let's continue like this forever!

MELISSA THE CUTIE! Oh, she's the same Melissa who vandalised my foolscap. (LMAO)

Michelle Mintoro, the performer. My parents say that she has a sort of class about her, and i totally agree. She is also the older sister of one of my classmates in music last year! 

Muriel!!!! Omg, love this gal, has a ton of talent hidden in that petite body of hers. So nice and cute too hehe xD

NICOLE MAH BABY! An unexpected super badass gal who is down to earth and hardworking (which I really admire and wanna be), she's one of the closest friends I have in JC, always looking out for me. Really wanna treasure this friendship for years to come, coz it's worth it. 

Oh, what else can I say that you can't already see? Rachel is a chiobu who is so musical. Sings well, composes well, and her Strings Fusion was critically acclaimed by audiences that night. Congrats!!

 Kim, the fashionable and multi-talented senior. i'm still so grateful for the awesome hairdo she gave me. Oh, and her flute playing is even better, check her out.

And yes, every time i stand with these two I feel the slightest bit of intimidation because they are my CCA presidents..... J1 and J2. It's ok, I will live up to their standards!

THe only guy MEPer I managed to snap a picture with. Eccentric but excellent pianist Joshia. What I like about him is that he is extremely patient and doesnt get offended easily, something that I have to learn.

The string ensem guys! I am really not short. Joshua's a freaking 190cm so he's totally not counted.

Oh, and for those of you who couldnt be bothered to come for the concert, my parents took a video of my trio performing our item. It is pretty messy at some places and my intonation sounds kind of horrible at other parts but overall it is quite a good listen, do give it a try! here's the video below:

On a side note, my aunt said that I look like an angel when I'm on stage, then degraded to a devil's child off stage due to the way that i dress. Why should my clothes change my personality? :P

Defying Conventions.

Yeah, that's the phrase that I have been using over and over again in music assignments haha. Everyone is so fascinated by how Beethoven broke the classical 'rules' and created revolutionary music that would spawn a whole new era of classical music, ie the Romantic period.

This is not only seen in music alone though. Fashion has seen its evolution through generations, and none has made it more prominent than Coco Chanel, who loved her comfort and practicality but still retainined class and elegance.

Chanel broke the norms of women's fashion in the 1920s/1930s, where she made suits and PANTS (gasp, the horror) for women. Her rationale was that fashion should be comfortable, and come on, no one rides horses wearing skirts... But, what respectable french woman in that era would wear pants? Completely indecent, even rude. Oh, and the introduction of the iconic little black dress which became so immensely popular that up till today it is still being made as a fashion statement? It was used to be worn specially for funerals.CRAZY that it should be worn on daily occasions.

That's why, it kind of puzzles me to see so many people are hating on Alice Dellal, the new face of Chanel Boy (it's a handbag). Here's a picture of her in the ad campaign:

A pure indigenous rocker, rather infamous for taking her top off during a concert as well as drinking alcohol. The rest of her family are famous (and sane) people in the fashion industry.

Many people on youtube and blogs are ranting about how Alice 'destroys' Chanel's classy image coz she is a trashy tattooed wannabe, or how Karl Lagerfeld is an annoying bitch who doesnt know how to choose a proper model. Oh oh and the ironic one: 'I'm 23 years old and will continue to wash my hair daily (unlike the look of her) and wear pretty tea dresses and cardis. IF the fashion daaaahlings don't like that, well stuff them!'

BITCH PLEASE. Good God, the fakest bitch ever, not everyone has to look all sweet and girly to be fashionable, everyone has their own individual style, and the worst part is you dont even SOUND the part. I can totally imagine you saying in a high pitched irritating blood boiling voice: 'pretty tea dresses and cardis'. Dont make me puke thanks. You didnt have to be so rude, totally doesn't go well with the 'tea dress' look you want to pull off. Btw, her hair is awesome, so you can suck on that.

These comments are rather contradictory to what Chanel did almost a century ago. Chanel is now recognised as classy and elegant, but was it really what people ages ago thought of Chanel's clothes then? Of course, she worked hard to get where she was, but that doesnt mean that she had always been recognised for all her life. Pants weren't exactly considered to be sophisicated, just in case you didn't know. 

What I see in this ad campaign is Karl Lagerfeld trying to push the boundaries (like he always does) and bring a breath of fresh air and youth to the restricted, forever prim and perfect world of high fashion. Doing something others have never thought of. After all, defying conventions is what it is all about. Alice Dellal is a true blue tattooed rocker whom Largefeld himself thought was the perfect representation of the cool vibe that Chanel boy was supposed to bring. Sophistication with an edge, why not? I dont see how in any way she is destroying Chanel's image, especially when she is not doing anything illegal. She doesn't even curse in interviews!

Oh and those of you who are dissing Karl, if you are so clever, try and take over his position. You'll crumble in a fucking two seconds in his big ass shoes. Oh, and even if you were to survive, people will get bored of you in just two seasons. Otherwise, you would have already been as established as he is.

End of my perspective section today, hehe it's so fun to give my opinions on issues such as this, especially when so many people are bullshitting like they know it all (and when in actual fact havent even done their homework). 

Anyway, gonna pick Veron up from the airport in a few hours, cant wait to see her! <3 

Oh and guys, check out Adam's performance with Queen in Ukraine, you WILL NOT REGRET. So phenomenal a performance, it brought me to tears. The intonation was a little wonky at the last few songs but it doesnt really affect his overall performance. AS EXPECTED <3

Anyway, MEP concert is coming up, im so nervous coz im putting so much pressure on myself to put up a good show for the people i have invited >.< Practising really hard for you guys! :D
